The Kiss is a painting originally by Pablo Picasso, and wonderfully recreated by Deej.
The painting was inspired by his relationship with a Jacqueline Roque, whom he married in 1961, at the age of 79. He was infatuated with his new love, and created more works inspired by his second wife than any of his previous romantic interests. In one year, he completed 70 portraits, both abstract and representational of his young wife.
Roque was the last of Picasso’s romantic liaisons to appear in his paintings. Picasso met her in 1953, after he was dumped by Genevieve Leport, with whom he was having an affair while married to Francois Gilot. Gilot and Leport simultaneously left Picasso who almost immediately met Roque, the woman who was to become his second wife. She committed suicide in 1986.
